Rye HS Suspended
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 5/24/24 - Rye High School has been suspended for the remainder of the '23 - '24 season for the following violations:
Unregistered Player The Rugby NY Disciplinary Committee has met and has decided that the Rye/Pelham match played on May 3, 2024, will be recorded as a forfeit by Rye to Pelham for the use of a player who was not registered at the time of the match. The player was added to the roster after he was registered and after the match had been played. Rugby NY inquired to USA Rugby regarding this issue and received the following:
"Re the player appearing on a team list for a match that was completed – I think I explained this one to Gio already. If the match was still a ‘fixture’, then a player can be retrospectively added. So: there’s no block on putting someone onto a roster retrospectively.
Rugby NY asked Rye to provide proof of registration for the player such as an email receipt from Rugby Xplorer (RX), or a credit card receipt. No such proof has been provided. As a result, Rugby NY has determined that player was not eligible at the time of he Pelham match. Player's participation voids the result, and a forfeit is awarded to Pelham.
The Rye team is suspended for the remainder of the season and not allowed to participate in the 2024 Rugby NY championships. In addition, the Rye team and coach are placed on probation for the 2025 season. Any further violations during this time frame could result in additional suspensions of the Rye team and/or coach.
Point Deduction for Including Suspended Player on Team Roster
The Rugby NY Disciplinary Committee has met and has decided to deduct one table standings point from Rye for including a suspended player on its roster for the May 10, 2024 match versus St. Anthony’s. The requirement for submitting team rosters and match results has been communicated to all teams. Rugby NY views accurate rosters as an important part of match reporting and, therefore, has deducted one standings point from Rye for an inaccurate roster.
